Working as a personal trainer is a very rewarding career and it provides a wide range of opportunities for working in the following areas:

In a fitness centre or personal training studio

Personal Training services within a resort or hotel

With professional sports teams and athletes

Many Personal Trainers have the flexibility of working their own hours with payment rates based on the services they provide.

By completing this qualification, you’ll also be opening up opportunities as a fitness professional across South-East Asia and around the world, including a potential pathway to work in Australia.

Delivery & Timeframes

The Certified Personal Trainer course is completed as a combination of online study and practical placement within a suitably equipped fitness facility.

The course has been designed to be completed in a 3 to 6-month timeframe, commencing whenever it suits you. The hours of study are flexible and you can fit it in around your other commitments.

The online component of the course includes access to an extensive range of learning resources including interactive presentations, videos and reference materials. You can contact our student support team as often as you like if you require assistance.

Throughout your course you complete practical work in a fitness centre or PT facility to gain experience, perfect your skills and link with employers.

The course is assessed via the practical placement, written short answers and online quizzes.

There are no minimum timeframes which means you can work through it as quickly as you like. You have up to 12 months to complete the Certificate if needed.

Assessment

There are 8 study areas in the Certificate as follows:

  1. Introduction to Personal Training
  2. Anatomy & Physiology
  3. Client Screening and Assessment
  4. Advanced Nutrition
  5. Exercise Programming
  6. Advanced Exercise Methods
  7. Programming For High-Risk Clients
  8. Work Experience Practical Placement

At the end of each module, you’ll need to complete a multiple-choice quiz (90% pass mark) to demonstrate your understanding of the topic before progressing to the next.

Within several topics, there is also the requirement to complete case studies, which aim to assess your ability to design appropriate exercise programs for a range of clients with a variety of fitness goals and needs.

Towards the end of your course, you are also required to complete 25 hours of Practical Placement in an approved fitness centre or personal training studio under the supervision of an experienced, practicing personal trainer.

Practical Placement helps develop your instructional skills, ability to identify/correct exercise techniques and provide customer service to clients. An evaluation from your supervisor forms a component of your practical placement assessment.

Only upon completing all of the quizzes, case studies and Practical Placement will you be issued the qualification.

There is also a requirement to complete a First Aid qualification as part of the Certified Personal Trainer course. The First Aid course will need to include theoretical and practical demonstration of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

It’s also recommended that you check whether your country has registration, accreditation and insurance requirements for personal trainers. These additional requirements may be needed prior to you commencing work as a personal trainer.

The aim of Practical Placement is to bridge the gap between study and employment. It is a structured program completed over 25 hours and is designed to give students real experience prior to entering the fitness industry.

The in-depth program takes you from a shadowing role to a training role, giving you the confidence to enter the fitness industry as a knowledgeable and skilled instructor.

The program also improves your employment opportunities through obtaining valuable ‘on the job’ practical experience.

Most facilities are happy to take on our students for practical placement because it offers them the opportunity to observe you as a potential employee upon graduation. They will also be paid for their assistance.

It is important you approach the placement in a professional manner which is why we provide you with guidelines for arranging the placement and a structured assessment program for getting the most out of the experience.

We also provide you with an Australian Fitness Academy Asia uniform to help you look the part.
